Where does faction catalogue data come from?
Faction catalogues come from BSData, a volunteer-run project on GitHub that maintains the data files many roster builders use. UnitCrunch is not part of BSData and does not write or correct its data.
Each faction catalogue holds that faction's datasheets, and you can build a profile from any of them. Downloading catalogues and building profiles from their datasheets are Premium features.
How downloads work
- Your browser downloads a faction catalogue straight from GitHub, and only when you choose to. It does not pass through UnitCrunch's servers.
- Downloaded catalogues stay in that browser on that device. They do not sync to your other devices or browsers, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes them.
- A profile you build is saved to your account like any other profile.
Updates (Premium)
BSData changes often, as points and datasheets are corrected and updated. With Premium, UnitCrunch checks GitHub for changes to your downloaded catalogues once a day, when you open Faction Catalogues or the datasheet picker. A catalogue that has changed shows Update available, and nothing updates until you choose to.
Updating a catalogue does not change profiles already built from it. To bring a profile up to date, open it and use Change loadout, which rebuilds it from the catalogue as it is now.
Without Premium, your downloaded catalogues stay as they are. Opening a profile you built from a datasheet still checks GitHub, at most once a day, and says when BSData has changed the catalogue it came from. The check reads only which version of each file GitHub holds, and downloads no datasheets.
Why can't I find a unit?
- Each faction catalogue lists its own datasheets. Units another faction can take as allies are in that faction's own catalogue, so download that one.
- Legends datasheets are hidden until you turn on Show Legends in the datasheet picker.
Something in a datasheet looks wrong
Check whether a roster builder that uses BSData shows the same thing. If it does, the data needs fixing upstream: report it to BSData. If only UnitCrunch gets it wrong, report it on the UnitCrunch issue tracker.
